As the Training Architect for this project, Tactical Design North collaborated with Perkins + Will on the New York City Police Academy, the largest municipal training project in the world and in New York City’s history. TDN conducted a needs assessment, master planned, and designed the indoor training Village, Urban Search and Rescue Components, EVOC Course, COBRA Training Areas, and Firearms Range for the facility. The Training Village, designed to be a 70,000 SF enclosed facility, represents several NYC neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are flexible with operation, and include various training strategy configurations for multiple user types of the academy. After the budget was reduced  by half, the Academy was condensed and redesigned to ecompass 3 floors of Indoor Practical Training areas along side classroom and administrative spaces.
